Mahnaz Afkhami Papers: July 2026 Collection Update
The collection, housed at Georgetown University Library’s Booth Family Center for Special Collections, takes as its locus the personal papers of Mahnaz Afkhami, around which have accumulated seven decades of organizational records, correspondence, publications, photographs and audiovisual material, oral histories, conference files, and the policy documents of the many institutions she built or served. What it preserves, in the end, is a life: one given over to scholarship and public service in Iran, and after 1979 to advocacy carried on across the Middle East, North Africa, and much of the Global South.

Georgetown Receives Afkhami Collection, An Extraordinary Treasure of Iranian Pre-Revolution Historical Documents
The Georgetown University Library is pleased to announce the exceptional gift of the Afkhami Collection, consisting of the personal papers of Mahnaz Afkhami and her late husband, the respected scholar Dr. Gholam Reza Afkhami, as well as the archives and library of the Foundation for Iranian Studies ( بنیاد مطالعات ایران fis-iran.org).

Faculty of Languages and Linguistics Celebrates End of Academic Year with Awards
Farima Sadigh Mostowfi not only developed the Persian Studies Program, but was a driving force behind the Persian language minor. As she received her award, Mostowfi addressed the assembled students and faculty, reflecting on her time at Georgetown and the intrinsic value of studying foreign languages.
